Patria Expands Defense Partnership With Finnish City of Hämeenlinna

Patria and the Finnish city of Hämeenlinna are preparing to formalize a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening the local defense industrial base.

The proposed letter of intent covers industrial infrastructure, workforce development, and potential joint projects. Planned measures include a demonstration space for local defense companies and the development of new industrial environments.

A joint steering group with representatives from both parties would oversee implementation of the agreement, which would remain in effect until further notice.

Hämeenlinna has long hosted Patria operations and serves as one of the company’s armored vehicle hubs, supported by a wider network of industrial partners.

Strengthening Regional Partnerships

The agreement comes as Patria continues to expand defense partnerships across Europe.

Earlier this month, the Finnish defense company signed a deal with Czech state-owned defense organizations, including the Military Technical Institute, the Military Research Institute, and VOP CZ, as Prague moves toward selecting a new 8×8 armored vehicle fleet.

In April, Patria also signed cooperation agreements with Ukrainian venture capital firm Double Tap Investments and Ukraine’s IRON Cluster, both focused on defense technology development and testing.

Signed at the Drone Autonomy conference in Lviv, the framework covers information sharing, joint testing, and potential future projects.

Earlier this year, the European Commission approved a 79-million-euro ($92.8 million) grant for the third phase of the FAMOUS program, a multinational armored vehicle development initiative led by Patria.

The phase has a total budget of 115 million euros ($124 million), including national co-funding.
