Aurelius Systems Opens US Production Line for High-Power Fiber Lasers
Aurelius Systems has opened a US manufacturing line for high-power fiber laser modules, aiming to close a supply gap as defense and industrial demand accelerates.
The company has launched a new division, Aurelius Manufacturing, to produce multi-kilowatt fiber laser source modules domestically. The systems sit at the core of directed-energy weapons and advanced industrial laser applications such as cutting, welding, and additive manufacturing.
Under this deal, the new production line will support both prototype and full-rate manufacturing of compact laser source modules.
Aurelius, known for its Archimedes counter-drone system, said the decision follows a long-term decline in US-based production capacity for high-power fiber lasers.
The company stated that most remaining suppliers are now foreign-owned, while demand for secure, traceable supply chains continues to rise.
Rising Demand in High-Power Laser Production
Momentum is building in US defense programs to deploy laser weapons at scale, but industrial capacity remains a limiting factor.
The Pentagon, for its part, is working to field laser systems within 36 months, supported by about $250 million in directed energy research and development funding under recent legislation.
That investment is expected to accelerate as the Department of Defense’s fiscal year 2027 budget request expands the pipeline, proposing more than $2 billion in directed energy research, development, testing, and evaluation.
At the program level, the army’s Enduring High Energy Laser initiative is approaching its first production contract, with plans to procure up to 24 systems for field use.
