Azerbaijan, Czech Republic Explore Joint Defense Manufacturing Projects
Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic are exploring joint defense manufacturing projects as both countries look to expand cooperation beyond energy trade into military production.
President Ilham Aliyev and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis discussed specific joint production initiatives during Babis’ visit in Gabala, according to a report by Anadolu Agency.
Aliyev noted that defense industry cooperation is already a growing part of bilateral ties, pointing out that Azerbaijan continues to purchase a range of military equipment from the Czech Republic.
He said the current phase of discussions focuses on moving from procurement toward co-production arrangements.
The Azerbaijani president also emphasized the broader economic relationship, highlighting oil exports to Prague and describing energy as a central pillar of cooperation.
Azerbaijan Expands Defense Partnerships
Azerbaijan has steadily widened its defense cooperation with international partners in recent years, balancing procurement agreements with efforts to develop local industry links.
In April, it signed six cooperation agreements with Ukraine, with security and the defense-industrial complex identified as the main focus. The talks between the two countries included sharing experience in countering aggression and strengthening coordination.
Earlier, in October 2025, Azerbaijan and South Korea held defense talks in Baku to deepen cooperation on military development and regional security. Discussions focused on efforts to strengthen domestic stability and bilateral defense capabilities.
The same month, military cybersecurity experts from Azerbaijan and Georgia met in Tbilisi to strengthen cooperation on digital defense amid rising threats.
