UK Taps Babcock for $80M Non-Combat Vehicle Fleet Support

The UK has awarded Babcock a 60-million-pound ($80.4-million) contract to manage its non-combat vehicle fleet.

The five-year “Phoenix 3” deal covers cars, vans, trucks, and specialist vehicles used across defense operations, extending Babcock’s role supporting the white fleet since 2016.

It includes options for up to five one-year extensions and will sustain around 60 jobs.

Under the agreement, Babcock will oversee vehicle procurement, maintenance and repair, and accident management, while introducing a Fleet Management Information System to track vehicles across UK and overseas operations.

This system aims to standardize oversight and improve efficiency across both leased and rental fleets.

“Providing steadfast support to the [Ministry of Defence’s] white fleet ensures they maintain the mobility and operational readiness it needs at home and abroad,” Babcock Through Life Equipment Support managing director Kate Robinson said.

Boosting UK Vehicle Fleet Support

Recent contracts show how London is investing in sustaining and improving vehicle availability across its armed forces.

In June 2024, Babcock International partnered with Hobson Industries to refurbish and maintain Land Rover Wolf vehicles, focusing on reliability and lifecycle support.

Vehicle production and sustainment also remain a priority.

A September 2024 contract covered the manufacture of additional Jackal 3 high-mobility transporters, with Babcock and Supacat supporting production to expand the army’s fleet and maintain operational capability.

Meanwhile, broader logistics vehicle upgrades continue across the force.

In 2025, the British Army received hundreds of new Rheinmetall MAN military trucks under a 282-million-pound ($380.4-million) program aimed at strengthening transport capacity for equipment, supplies, and personnel.
