FN America Wins $9.9M US Machine Gun Contract

FN America has secured a $9.9-million contract to deliver additional M240B medium machine guns to the US Army and Navy, extending production of a weapons platform that has served US forces for decades.

The award covers the supply of M240B machine guns built at FN America’s manufacturing facility in Columbia, South Carolina.

Company officials described the contract as a continuation of a long relationship with the Pentagon. The original M240 contract was the first military award FN America received and the first weapon produced at its South Carolina plant.

Chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO rounds, the M240B serves as a medium machine gun used by infantry platoons and companies for suppressive fire. Its cold hammer‑forged barrel features a hard‑chromed bore designed to extend service life and maintain accuracy.

The weapon has a maximum range of 3,725 meters (12,221 feet) and uses a steel receiver with an MIL‑STD‑1913 rail for mounting optics.

Production of the M240 platform for US forces dates back to the late 1970s, when FN began manufacturing firearms domestically. Since then, the company has produced millions of weapons for the US military.

FN-US Small Arms Deals

Beyond the latest award, FN America has secured several US military contracts for similar weapons and components in recent years.

In July 2025, the company won a $4.9-million contract to supply the US Army with additional FN M240L lightweight medium machine guns, a lighter variant of the standard M240 platform.

Earlier, in March 2025, FN America received a contract worth up to $39.6 million from the US Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency to supply barrels for both M240 and M249 machine guns — a key sustainment effort supporting fielded weapons systems across multiple service branches.

Looking further back, in June 2021, FN America won a substantial $92.1-million contract to procure M240 series machine gun variants and spare receivers for the US Army.
