Teledyne and Norwegian Firm Explore Vehicle-Based Drone Deployment
US firm Teledyne FLIR Defense and Norwegian defense tech company STORM Adapt Group have entered into a collaboration to explore vehicle-based drone deployment solutions.
Teledyne FLIR’s SkyCarrier multi-mission quadcopter uncrewed aerial system (UAS) and Black Recon micro‑UAS will be assessed for technical integration with STORM’s modular and vehicle-mounted Rapid Adapt and Deploy System (RADS).
The paired system is intended to enhance mission adaptability and target several mission applications, including mobile intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance; rapid response; and critical infrastructure and border protection.
Following the signing of the memorandum of understanding at EnforceTac 2026, Teledyne and STORM will begin joint technical evaluations and further collaboration activities.
“This partnership represents an exciting step in expanding how our vehicle-based UAS platforms can be deployed and sustained in the field,” said Harald Sørensen, VP of Unmanned Systems-Norway for Teledyne FLIR Defense.
Featured Drones
Teledyne’s drones for integration with STORM’s RADS both feature autonomous launch and recovery capabilities.
Unveiled in September 2023, the Black Recon micro-drone weighs around 350 grams (12.6 ounces), sustains flight for over 45 minutes, and fits in a launch box mountable on a variety of military vehicles and ground-based systems.
It was built on the lessons gleaned from the company’s Black Hornet nano-drone and developed by Teledyne’s team in Norway with support from the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment, Defense News reported.
Two years later, Teledyne debuted the SkyCarrier UAS, built on a “drone-in-a-box” concept and designed for high-speed operations and GPS-denied environments.
SkyCarrier features artificial intelligence-based markers for target acquisition and precision landing, as well as onboard recharging and extended battery life.
It can also take off and return from fixed installations and moving platforms, including ground vehicles and maritime vessels.
