Kuwait Opens First Domestic Plant for Light Ammunition
Kuwait has launched a light ammunition manufacturing facility, boosting the country’s self-reliance and domestic industrial base.
Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah presided over the launch ceremony of the “Nayef Light Ammunition Factory” and pressed the operational button to begin the site’s production.
According to the Middle Eastern government, the plant’s inauguration marks its first ammunition manufacturing project inside Kuwait and the first production line of its kind.
The opening follows strict quality and safety standards and meets NATO requirements for light ammunition manufacturing.
The event drew senior defense officials, including Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and top Kuwaiti Armed Forces commanders.
During the event, Al-Sabah described the facility as “a strategic addition to Kuwait’s defense capabilities” and said it reflects Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening its military and security equipment under modern technical standards.
He also commended the workforce who completed the infrastructure and expressed confidence in future personnel who will oversee work at the site.
Collaboration With China
Among the plant’s future partners is Beijing’s state-owned China North Industries Corporation or NORINCO, which develops military capabilities for the People’s Liberation Army.
The company was represented by CEO Ji Wei, who emphasized that the Chinese firm will continue cooperating with Kuwaiti partners “to produce high-quality ammunition, transfer managerial technical expertise, and train national cadres.”
Also in attendance was Chinese Consul to Kuwait Liu Xiang, who noted that the Nayef Light Ammunition Factory “elevates” relations between the East Asian and Middle Eastern governments.
