Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a 140-million-euro ($165-million) contract with Patria to supply its Protector Remote Weapon Stations for the German and Swedish Common Armored Vehicle System (CAVS) 6×6 programs.
The agreement covers the delivery of several hundred Protector RS4 stations, with supplies scheduled to run through 2026 and into the following years.
Berlin recently ordered 876 CAVS platforms under a $2.3-billion procurement, while Stockholm has ordered 94 Patria vehicles, building on a previous 321-vehicle contract signed in March 2024.
In addition to the RS4 systems, the German order also includes the integration of Patria’s NEMO mortar turret on selected vehicles.
“This contract positions the RS4 as the standard weapon station configuration across the multinational CAVS fleet,” Executive Vice President at Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace Kjetil Reiten Myhra said.
“We are pleased to extend our cooperation with the Swedish and German armed forces. Combined with growing interest from participating and prospective CAVS nations, this agreement confirms Kongsberg’s standing as a leading supplier of remote weapon stations.”
Protector RS4
The highly flexible Protector RS4 remote weapon station is designed for small- and medium-caliber weapons, including the integration of coaxial weapons and anti-tank guided missiles.
Its fully stabilized 2+2 axis Detached Line of Sight architecture enables continuous target tracking independent of weapon ballistics, improving accuracy while on the move.
Platform-independent by design, the RS4 can be deployed on both land and maritime platforms, operating effectively in static and mobile roles.
The system is equipped with advanced electro-optical sensors and camera systems, offering configurable day- and night-operation options to meet specific mission requirements.
Depending on the variant, the RS4 weighs between 135 and 190 kilograms (298 and 419 pounds) and measures 505 to 765 millimeters (20 to 30 inches) in height, excluding weapons and ammunition.
