Lockheed’s Derco Secures US C-130 Logistics Contract

Lockheed Martin company Derco has secured a new performance-based logistics contract to support C-130 Hercules aviation consumables, aiming to boost readiness and spare part availability across the fleet.

Under the C-130 Aviation Consumables Performance Based Logistics agreement with the US Defense Logistics Agency, Derco will oversee demand forecasting, inventory management, warehousing, engineering support, and field services for new C-130 spare parts.

The program marks the first outcome-based contract between the agency and Lockheed Martin under this initiative.

Kathy Medalle, Derco president and general manager, said the contract reflects the company’s mission “of maintaining high material availability, driving mission capability rates and warfighter readiness.”

C-130 Hercules: Versatile Workhorse of Military Aviation

The Lockheed Martin C‑130 Hercules has been a backbone of military airlift for more than 70 years, renowned for its flexibility and reliability across a wide range of missions.

Originally introduced in the 1950s, the four-engine turboprop transport aircraft has been adapted for tactical airlift, humanitarian relief, aerial refueling, search and rescue, special operations, and even firefighting.

Its ability to operate from short, unprepared airstrips makes it particularly valuable for rapid deployment and access to remote areas.

The C‑130 family has undergone continuous modernization, with variants like the C‑130J Super Hercules featuring advanced avionics, improved engines, and extended range.

Globally, the C‑130 Hercules remains one of the most widely used military transport aircraft, serving in air forces across multiple continents.

Beyond the US, key operators include the Royal Australian Air Force, which uses C‑130J‑30 Super Hercules aircraft for regional transport and humanitarian missions; the Royal Canadian Air Force, flying a mix of C‑130H and C‑130J‑30 models; and the Indian Air Force, which employs C‑130Js for strategic airlift and special operations.
