Turkey’s Defense, Aviation Exports Top $10B in 2025
Turkey’s defense and aviation exports hit $10 billion in 2025, up 48 percent from $7.1 billion in 2024, Daily Sabah reported.
According to Haluk Görgün, head of the Presidency of Defense Industries, exports in December alone exceeded $2.5 billion.
Goods totaled $9.8 billion and services $184 million, representing 3.7 percent of Turkey’s total exports.
Görgün highlighted key contracts for military ships to Portugal, Hürjet trainers to Spain, the Kaan fighter system to Indonesia, and Offshore Patrol Vessels to Romania.
Approximately $5.6 billion, or 56 percent, of exports went to European nations, NATO countries, and the US.
Other markets included the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.
Boosting Domestic Production
Ankara is expanding its defense exports while investing in domestic technologies to reduce reliance on foreign systems.
Earlier this month, state-owned Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi unveiled the 130mm BALKIN missile, designed to confuse radar-guided attacks.
The missile disperses special particles upon detonation, forming a dense, highly radar-reflective cloud that misleads radio-frequency homing missiles and protects naval platforms.
Last month, the country announced the start of construction of its first domestically developed submarine at Gölcük Shipyard Command, a key naval facility in Kocaeli, northwestern Turkey, along the Sea of Marmara.
Meanwhile, Turkey is advancing the Steel Dome multilayered air defense system, with defense firms signing contracts worth around $6.5 billion to increase production.
First announced in 2024, the system, comparable to Israel’s Iron Dome, uses artificial intelligence to intercept air and missile threats at multiple ranges and altitudes.
