King Abdullah II Explores Saab Partnership to Jordan Armed Forces

Jordan is exploring tapping Swedish defense manufacturer Saab as part of its ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen its armed forces.

This interest was highlighted by King Abdullah II’s recent visit to Saab’s headquarters, reflecting the kingdom’s broader strategy to enhance the capabilities of the Jordanian Armed Forces through collaborations with global defense firms.

During the visit, Saab executives presented an overview of the company’s latest innovations, including radar and surveillance systems and other cutting-edge defense technologies.

King Abdullah’s engagement with Saab took place as part of his week-long working visit to Sweden, which included discussions with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on expanding cooperation in defense, cybersecurity, and counterterrorism between the two countries.

Jordan’s Engagement With Foreign Defense Firms

Jordan has increasingly turned to foreign defense companies to modernize its armed forces.

Over the past decade, the Jordanian Armed Forces has signed agreements with international suppliers to acquire advanced equipment. These include US-supplied F-16 fighter jets and Patriot missile systems, as well as Italian-made Centauro armored vehicles.

The country has also procured a range of drones and electronic surveillance systems to strengthen its border monitoring and intelligence capabilities.
