India Awards $5.2M Contract to Paras for Homegrown Anti-Drone Systems

India has awarded Paras Anti-Drone Technologies a contract worth 461.9 million rupees ($5.2 million) to supply advanced anti-drone systems to the armed forces.

The order, made through the Ministry of Defense, includes jammers designed to detect and disable hostile unmanned aerial vehicles in high-security and border zones.

Paras said its systems use radio frequency jamming and signal disruption to intercept unauthorized drones that may be used for surveillance or attacks.

They can cover frequencies from 400 MHz to 6 GHz and can be fully configured to counter different types of threats in various environments.

Paras CEO Ashutosh Baheti said the deal – the company’s first major domestic contract – comes at a time when drones are emerging as “both an opportunity and a threat.”

“Our focus remains on delivering effective, Made-in-India solutions that strengthen the armed forces and safeguard national security,” he said.

India Expands Counter-Drone Capabilities

India has been ramping up investment in anti-drone technologies amid increasing aerial threats along its borders. Reported incursions in Jammu and Punjab involved drones used to drop weapons, narcotics, and surveillance devices from across the Pakistan border.

The Indian Air Force has integrated similar systems into airbase defenses, while the Border Security Force deploys anti-drone units along the Pakistan border.

Counter-drone systems were also used during major events such as the 2023 G20 Summit and Republic Day celebrations, employing jammers and sensors.

India is promoting broader adoption of locally developed counter-drone technologies, supporting both public-sector undertakings and private startups.

This push aligns with the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” (self-reliant India) initiative, aimed at reducing dependence on foreign suppliers and building a sustainable domestic defense ecosystem.
