German defense contractor Rheinmetall Electronics and France’s Safran Electronics and Defense have signed a cooperation agreement that streamlines joint procurement processes and supports future projects.
Signed at a defense and security equipment convention in London, the framework is designed to speed up collaboration by reducing paperwork, simplifying logistics, and creating a faster path from order to delivery.
It covers a range of tactical solutions, including GPS-free navigation tools, ultra-precise atomic clocks, and advanced optics for vehicles and soldiers.
“We’re excited to deepen our collaboration with Rheinmetall and introduce state-of-the-art solutions,” Safran Electronics and Defense Germany CEO Marzell Schiller commented.
“This agreement reflects the trust between our teams and opens new possibilities for ambitious projects ahead.”
Supporting Regional Industry
The consortium noted that the agreement reinforces Berlin and Paris’ push to build a more competitive European defense industry that is less dependent on external sources.
Simultaneously, the companies are expected to focus more on innovation while delivering advanced capabilities to users throughout the partnership.
“With this strategic agreement, we are laying the foundation for a strong partnership that opens up new perspectives and enables us to drive innovation together, thus contributing to actively shape the future of our industry,” said Christian Martens, CEO at Rheinmetall’s defense electronics division.
As part of the cooperative effort, Rheinmetall has already ordered Safran navigation and timing systems, including the VersaSync — a compact, rugged unit that provides precise positioning and synchronization even without GPS — through the faster procurement process created by the agreement.
