Polish firm Bumech has signed a cooperation agreement with OTT Technologies of South Africa to localize the production of OTT’s armored vehicles in Poland.
The deal marks Bumech’s diversification into the defense sector, encompassing the production, marketing, and distribution of OTT platforms for the European market.
The partnership will initially cover the PUMA, LM, and Bulldog armored vehicles, with an in-principle agreement to integrate anti-drone protection systems into the platforms.
“Under the agreement, Bumech will be able to modify and adapt the solutions to flexibly adapt them to the needs of the modern battlefield,” Bumech stated.
“The agreement defines the geographic scope of the cooperation as Central European countries and Scandinavia, and may be expanded to include additional neighboring countries with the mutual consent of the parties.”
Phased Partnership
Vehicle assembly will start with OTT-supplied components, gradually shifting to parts and components manufactured within the EU.
Ultimately, the partners plan to achieve full licensed production, with at least 70 percent of components sourced from EU suppliers.
The production process will reportedly include redesigning elements like drivetrains and engines to meet EU emissions and regulatory requirements.
Initial Period Until December 31, 2027
Bumech will provide comprehensive financial backing for the collaboration, including production start-up expenses and product sales support costs.
The initial phase of the partnership will run until December 31, 2027, with the option of extension if specific threshold conditions are met.
The Polish military alone is estimated to require around 3,000 armored vehicles, with growing demand from border patrol and police forces further boosting the potential market.
“Using our resources, infrastructure, and newly acquired know-how, we are entering the rapidly growing defense market,” Vice President of the Management Board of Bumech Michał Kończak was quoted as saying.
“Cooperation with OTT Technologies opens up new opportunities, allowing us to offer Europe proven, now locally manufactured military solutions.
In response to growing defense needs and the government’s push for reindustrialization, we are optimistic about the reception of our future products manufactured in Polish facilities.”
