Taiwan, Shield AI Launch Defense Technology Collaboration

Shield AI has partnered with Taiwan’s Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) to advance defense capabilities, expand the local aerospace industrial base, and support collaborative technological innovation.

Under the agreement, AIDC will provide aerospace manufacturing expertise, while Shield AI will supply mission autonomy systems and aircraft.

The deal covers sustainment, training, autonomy integration, and other technical activities to facilitate the deployment and support of Shield AI’s products in Taiwan.

AIDC stated that the initiative aligns with its plans to bolster Taiwan’s defense industry and support next-generation technologies over the next 20 years.

“Shield AI’s state-of-the-art mission autonomy and aircraft, such as their V-BAT, combined with AIDC’s decades of aerospace manufacturing experience, will strengthen Taiwan’s defense and deterrence capabilities, and supercharge Taiwan’s local drone and aerospace industry,” said a spokesperson from AIDC.

Moreover, Shield AI noted it will announce additional Asia-Pacific developments in the coming weeks.

Ramping Up Defense Efforts

Under growing military pressure from China, which claims the self-ruled island as its territory and has threatened to take it by force, Taiwan has stepped up military spending and is expanding its focus on drones and other advanced systems.

Earlier this month, the island nation outlined plans to allocate up to $33 billion in special funding to bolster defenses against a possible attack from Beijing.

While advancing domestic military programs, Taipei is also deepening partnerships with US firms, with Washington remaining one of its main allies and arms suppliers.

In August, Taiwan unveiled two new indigenous drones and a wheeled tank prototype, while US company Anduril Industries delivered the first batch of Altius loitering munitions under a foreign military sales contract.
