Portuguese Firm Unveils Tactical Comms System for Fixed, Mobile Use
Portuguese developer EID has unveiled a tactical integrated communication system designed for use aboard military vehicles or within fixed infrastructure.
The product, called TerraNEX, is a customizable device that can be integrated into an armed force’s communications network on the battlefield.
It is compatible with select IP-based capabilities, network management tools, audio controllers, and other communication subsystems, enabling optimized and secure coordination between deployed units.
Last month, the Almada-based company validated the TerraNEX’s functions in Santa Margarida in partnership with the Portuguese Army.
During the demonstration, the system supported multiple radio systems and waveforms, accessed secure military internet, and relayed information to soldier-equipped systems.
TerraNEX was also installed in the Portuguese Army’s Pandur 8×8 wheeled armored vehicles and an M577 armored personnel carrier for simulations involving mobile platforms.
Martin Bennett, CEO of EID, told Army Technology that the NATO-compliant solution will “enhance mission readiness” and support ongoing modernization efforts for both domestic and international military users.
“Our new tactical integrated communication system is a product of years of collaboration and innovation,” Bennett said.
“It represents not only a technical leap forward but also a reaffirmation of our trusted partnership with the Portuguese Armed Forces.”
