RTX Invests $26.5M to Expand Florida Radar Production Facility

RTX is investing $26.5 million to expand Collins Aerospace’s Largo, Florida, facility in a bid to increase production of aviation radar and defense communications systems.

The expansion will create more than 100 jobs across engineering and factory operations and add production capacity. This move also addresses the increasing demand for airspace surveillance and military coordination technologies.

RTX said the new production area is expected to become fully operational by late 2026.

The facility will support work under the Federal Aviation Administration’s Radar System Replacement Program, including production of the Condor Mk3 cooperative surveillance radar and the ASR-XM non-cooperative radar.

The Largo facility already plays a central role in Collins Aerospace’s work on radars, secure communications, satellite components, and testing for military and commercial customers.

“Florida continues to attract leading aerospace manufacturers that are advancing cutting-edge aviation and defense technologies while creating high-skill jobs for Floridians,” Florida’s Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly said.

RTX Expands Defense Manufacturing

RTX has steadily increased investment across its manufacturing network as demand for missiles, sensors, and air defense systems has risen.

In April, RTX unit Pratt & Whitney announced a $100-million investment to expand engine production capabilities in Poland, supporting programs including the geared turbofan, F135 for the F-35, and F100 engines for the F-15 and F-16.

The move followed the March expansion of the company’s Redstone Missile Integration Facility in Alabama, which increased integration and delivery capacity by more than 50 percent.

Earlier, in February, Pratt & Whitney also unveiled a $200-million investment in its Georgia manufacturing site to add a seventh isothermal forging press for compressor and turbine disk production.
