Raytheon to Supply Patriot Interceptors for Operation Epic Fury
Raytheon has signed a $441.6-million contract to provide Patriot Guidance Enhanced Missile-Tactical (GEM-T) missiles in support of Operation Epic Fury, Washington’s ongoing military campaign against Iran.
The order falls under a 2023 framework capped at $2.4 billion for the weapons, increasing the program’s total value from $1.6 billion.
Work on the latest deal will be performed in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and is expected to be completed by September 2026.
Associated progress will be coordinated with the US Army Contracting Command’s Aviation Logistics unit at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, which handles oversight of the initiative.
GEM-T Specifications
The GEM-T missile is a surface-to-air interceptor that protects installations and troops against all types of airborne threats, such as tactical ballistic missiles.
The projectile uses a terminal-phase guidance system that updates targeting data from sensors in real time, allowing it to adjust its trajectory and strike the target accurately.
In combat, the GEM-T can achieve a range of about 160 kilometers (99 miles).
Currently, the US Armed Forces operates approximately 50 Patriot batteries, with about 30 stationed domestically and 20 deployed overseas.
