Minnesota-based Fortra has established a new Defense and Intelligence Unit (DIU), focused on delivering cyber capabilities to defense, intelligence, and critical infrastructure organizations.
The move comes as cyber threats against military systems and critical infrastructure continue to increase in scale and complexity, the company emphasized.
According to Fortra, the DIU is intended to address operational requirements in environments where networks may be classified, degraded, or disconnected.
“When you look across the world today, it’s clear that we are living in a time of rising geopolitical and cyber risks,” said John Grancarich, who has been appointed Executive VP and Head of Defense and Intelligence.
“With the launch of the DIU we are going all in on our mission of securing allied nations against cyber adversaries around the globe.”
Focus on Data Security
The DIU will focus on key technical areas relevant to defense operations and high-risk environments.
These include data discovery, classification, and protection aligned with defense requirements, as well as capabilities for securely transferring data across classified or disrupted networks.
The unit will also develop AI-driven tools to assess infrastructure resilience and identify vulnerabilities in operational settings.
In parallel, Fortra is working on deployable, enclave-ready architectures designed for mission-specific use, including forward- and restricted-access environments.
Execution will rely on partnerships with system integrators and technology providers, supported by personnel and facilities across North America and Europe.
These capabilities reflect the company’s broader approach to cybersecurity, which focuses on stopping attacks at every stage rather than reacting after a breach.
The model emphasizes early identification of vulnerabilities, blocking initial intrusion attempts, detecting malicious activity if access is gained, and limiting impact through data protection and user awareness measures.
