US Army Awards L3Harris $465M Night Vision Contract

The US Army has selected L3Harris Technologies to supply its next-generation binocular night-vision system under a contract worth up to $465 million, expanding efforts to modernize battlefield visibility for ground forces.

The award covers the Binocular Night Observation Device program and spans seven years.

L3Harris will provide its NOVA helmet-mounted system, designed to deliver improved all-weather, all-hour situational awareness through upgraded image intensifier technology.

NOVA builds on existing US military night-vision platforms and is intended to serve long-term requirements over the next two decades.

The system is also part of a broader push to replace legacy optics with lighter, more capable digitally enhanced binocular solutions across frontline units.

“We are focused on moving directly into production to quickly put this capability into the hands of soldiers,” president of Integrated Vision Solutions, Communications & Spectrum Dominance at L3Harris, Brenna Baker said.

US Expands Night Vision Modernization

The NOVA award comes amid a series of US Army investments aimed at upgrading night-fighting capability across multiple platforms and vendors.

In recent years, the army has fielded the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle – Binocular system through L3Harris, with more than 20,000 units delivered as part of a broader soldier modernization effort.

Alongside L3Harris, Elbit Systems has also been a key supplier under US night-vision modernization programs, providing systems under multiple procurement cycles supporting infantry and special operations forces.
