Navantia to Maintain Turkey’s Anadolu Assault Ship

Navantia has signed a deal with Turkey’s Naval Shipyards General Directorate to provide lifecycle maintenance and technical support for the amphibious assault ship TCG Anadolu.

The agreement sets out a three-year framework, renewable for another three, under which Navantia will deliver maintenance, repair services, remote and on-site technical assistance, documentation updates, and specialist training.

Support will be provided through a flexible request system, allowing the Turkish Navy to access services as operational needs arise.

Built in Turkey with engineering support from Navantia, the TCG Anadolu is based on the Spanish shipbuilder’s Juan Carlos I design.

The vessel was constructed at SEDEF shipyard and integrates systems supplied through Navantia, including diesel generator sets and an integrated platform control system.

Turkey Upgrades Anadolu

The TCG Anadolu has undergone a steady series of capability enhancements since its commissioning, reflecting Turkey’s broader effort to expand its amphibious and unmanned aviation capacity.

Turkish defense firm Baykar confirmed the integration and testing of TB3 naval-capable drones aboard Anadolu, marking a shift toward using the vessel as a drone carrier concept in addition to its traditional amphibious role.

Turkish Aerospace Industries has also advanced development of the Kızılelma unmanned combat aircraft, designed for carrier operations that align with Anadolu’s evolving mission profile as a platform for unmanned air power projection.
