Lockheed Teams With WZL-1 to Sustain Key Systems of Poland’s Apache Fleet

Lockheed Martin has joined forces with Polish defense firm Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze Nr 1 S.A. (WZL-1) to sustain key systems of Poland’s AH-64E Apache attack helicopter fleet.

The companies will establish a Poland-based repair and sustainment capability for the Apache’s Generation 4 Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (Gen 4 TADS/PNVS), as well as the Longbow fire control radar systems.

Work will be carried out at a new facility in Łódź, where Lockheed will provide resources, training, and technical support for WZL-1’s workforce, enabling faster repairs and upgrades to ensure aircraft availability for the Polish armed forces.

The partnership builds on a June 2025 deal where Lockheed was contracted to produce the Gen 4 TADS/PNVS, designed to enhance the AH-64E’s targeting and flight capabilities, and to collaborate with the Polish government to launch a TADS/PNVS Special Repair Activity in Łódź.

“Lockheed Martin is honored to deepen our long-standing partnership with Poland, delivering advanced sensor and sustainment capabilities that strengthen the nation’s security and its vital role within NATO,” said Stacy Kubicek, VP and General Manager of Lockheed Martin Sensors and Global Sustainment.

“By working hand-in-hand with Poland’s defense industry, we’re supporting both Poland’s industrial base and fortifying the US defense ecosystem,” she added.

Poland’s Apaches

Poland’s defense ministry signed an approximately $10-billion contract in August 2024 to purchase 96 Apache helicopters in the AH-64E configuration from Boeing, in support of the military’s modernization efforts.

In February 2025, Warsaw leased eight AH-64D Apache Longbows from Washington, which will serve as a temporary fleet until the AH-64E’s scheduled delivery in 2028.
