Turkish Defense Firm Targets US Market With New Revolving Cannon

Turkish defense company SYS Group is bringing its medium-caliber 30×113 mm revolving cannon to the US, aiming to offer an alternative to the standard chain and gatling guns used on American land vehicles.

Urku Aral, CEO of SYS Group-CANiK, said that the cannon will be demonstrated this year in collaboration with General Dynamics, according to a report by Anadolu Agency.

The European-style revolving cannon is designed for seamless integration with land vehicles and is compatible with M789 rounds, standard for Apache helicopters, ensuring logistical efficiency for partner forces.

Production at SYS Group’s Florida plant is expected to increase to 100,000 units in 2026, up from 65,000 last year, as the facility adds a third shift and leverages automation to control costs.

The announcement came during the World Defense Show 2026 in Riyadh, where SYS Group and its subsidiaries — CANiK, AEI Systems, and UNIROBOTICS — unveiled a range of weapons and platforms, spanning light arms to medium-caliber artillery and naval to land vehicle systems.

Turkish Defense Exports Expand Globally

In recent years, Turkish defense companies have steadily broadened their global footprint with several notable weapons systems.

Baykar’s Bayraktar TB2 drones, introduced in 2015, have been widely exported across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, gaining recognition for their cost-effectiveness and operational reliability.

Roketsan has supplied its Cirit laser-guided rockets since 2013 to multiple countries, integrating them with both light armored vehicles and helicopters.

FNSS has also extended its reach with its Pars armored vehicles, first exported in 2016 and 2018, featuring modular weapon turrets compatible with medium-caliber systems.

Meanwhile, Aselsan’s Korkut self-propelled anti-aircraft gun system, which debuted in 2018, combines radar-guided targeting with 35mm autocannons to provide mobile air defense.
