Norwegian Firms Develop Swarm-Based Mine-Clearing Concept for Autonomous Sea Ops

Norwegian firms Eelume and Maritime Robotics are aiming to revolutionize mine countermeasures by developing a new concept that links surface vessels and underwater robots into a unified system.

At the center is the WP960 unmanned surface vessel (USV), which acts as a carrier hub for a swarm of Eelume S All-Terrain autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).

From the surface, the WP960 deploys, recovers, and supports multiple AUVs tasked with searching for and clearing mines below the seabed.
