General Atomics, Qatar’s Barzan Team Up on Battle Management Software
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) is moving deeper into battle management and intelligence software through a new partnership with Qatar’s Barzan Holdings.
The US-based drone manufacturer and Barzan Holdings have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop advanced battle management software.
The agreement sets the framework for cooperation between GA-ASI, its data-focused subsidiary GA-Intelligence, and Barzan on software designed to improve theater-level situational awareness.
According to the companies, the effort will focus on tools that can rapidly process, correlate, and distribute intelligence from multiple sources, supporting faster decision-making in complex, multi-domain operations.
Recent Partnerships Signal Broader Shift Beyond Airframes
The Qatar agreement fits into a series of partnerships GA-ASI has pursued over the past year, many of which emphasize sensors, software, and integration rather than aircraft sales alone.
GA-ASI expanded its collaboration with Saab, building on a teaming agreement to explore airborne early warning and control capabilities using the MQ-9B platform.
The work focuses on integrating Saab’s sensors and mission systems into the unmanned aircraft, offering customers a persistent surveillance option without relying on traditional crewed platforms.
GA-ASI also continued cooperation with the UAE’s EDGE Group under agreements first announced in 2023, centered on developing unmanned and intelligence solutions tailored to regional requirements.
Separately, GA-ASI has maintained its partnership with Hanwha Aerospace of South Korea, formalized in 2023, to support maritime surveillance missions using the MQ-9B SeaGuardian.
