EuroTrophy to Supply Active Protection Systems for Leopard 2A8 Tanks

EuroTrophy has signed a 330-million-euro ($383 million) contract with KNDS Deutschland to deliver Trophy Active Protection Systems for the Leopard 2A8 programs of Lithuania, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and Croatia.

The agreement also covers spare parts, training, and other logistical support.

“With this achievement, Trophy becomes the NATO Active Protection System of choice, enabling the full spectrum of protection capabilities needed in the eastern front, and on the modern battlefield,” stated EuroTrophy.

The Leopard 2A8 features Trophy as part of its standard configuration, allowing the four countries to field a common setup.

The Trophy is integrated on several main battle tanks, including the Leopard 2, M1 Abrams, and Merkava IV.

It has also been integrated on lighter platforms, including the Boxer, the Patria AMV, and other infantry vehicles.

Trophy System

Trophy is an active protection system designed to intercept anti-tank weapons before they strike an armored vehicle.

It can operate in complex battlefield environments, handling attacks from multiple directions and at varying distances, whether the vehicle is stationary or moving.

The system is capable of defeating anti-tank guided missiles, anti-tank rockets, high-explosive anti-tank rounds, and rocket-propelled grenades.

It functions through an automated sequence.

First, a radar array monitors the area around the vehicle, detects and classifies incoming projectiles, and calculates their trajectories.

If an impact is assessed as likely, Trophy alerts the crew and deploys a countermeasure to neutralize the threat before it reaches the vehicle.

In addition, the system identifies the attack’s point of origin.

This information can be used by the protected platform and shared through a connected Battle Management System, a digital network that coordinates actions between units.
