US Navy Taps General Dynamics for $988M Digital Systems Upgrade

The US Navy has tapped General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) for a $988-million contract to modernize the digital systems that link its ships, aircraft, and shore operations.

The award covers the Ship and Air Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) Systems Support program. It includes a one-year base period, four one-year options, and a six-month option.

Under the contract, GDIT will upgrade, integrate, and maintain C5ISR systems across all classes of surface combatant ships, including guided missile vessels and aircraft carriers, as well as coast guard vessels, manned and unmanned aircraft, and shore stations.

The work spans engineering, procurement, logistics, and onboard installation, ensuring that the navy can keep its current fleet operational while maintaining mission readiness.

This deal is important, according to GDIT senior vice president for defense Brian Sheridan, because “C5ISR systems are foundational to how our navy senses, communicates and fights in the modern battlespace.”

US Navy Enhancement

Over the past two years, several companies have secured contracts to enhance the navy’s fleet capabilities.

In April 2024, the US Navy tapped Lockheed Martin to provide an advanced micro-electronics package for the MH-60R Seahawk helicopters that allows faster and more accurate detection of threats.

In October 2024, Leidos was awarded a $248-million contract to give unmanned and automated systems support for the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific

In October 2025, Kratos Defense & Security Solutions received a Phase 1 contract to establish an in-house sustainment program for its AN/SPY-1 radar systems, a key sensor used on Aegis-equipped cruisers and destroyers.
