University of Iowa Begins Push for Next-Gen Quantum Systems for Defense

Researchers at the University of Iowa (UI) are pushing deeper into advanced materials research, aiming to lay the groundwork for future quantum technologies with potential defense applications.

Backed by a nearly $1.5-million award from the US Department of Defense, the team plans to invest in special machinery that can shape and pattern materials at microscopic scales.

The goal is to create new compounds with enhanced optical and electronic properties, enabling more precise control over how materials interact with light and electrical signals.
