India Conducts Drone Training Near Pakistan Border

India has conducted specialized drone training in Jaisalmer, near its border with Pakistan, as part of the “Exercise Trishul” multi-domain drills, The Times of India reported.

The Indian Army’s Battle Axe Division trained soldiers in advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS), covering assembly, maintenance, and piloting techniques.

The program included first-person view operations, surveillance missions, and simulated munition drops.

Over the two-day drill, drones engaged mock enemy targets, demonstrating precision, endurance, and adaptability to the harsh desert environment.

According to The Times of India, the effort aligns with India’s self-reliance campaign to boost local production, innovation, and modernization in the defense sector.

Boosting Drone Capacity

In its drive to build a stronger homegrown defense industry, New Delhi is ramping up the development of indigenous drone technologies.

Earlier this month, India introduced mobile drone production units designed to manufacture and deploy unmanned systems directly in the field.

Developed by local firms Zuppa and Divide By Zero Technologies, the container-based units enable rapid 3D printing and drone assembly near operational zones.

While strengthening its local industry, the Asian country is also partnering with European nations and the US to advance drone and counter-drone capabilities.

Last month, the EU and India held their first joint counterterrorism training focused on protecting critical infrastructure and soft targets from emerging drone threats.

The three-day program brought together India’s National Security Guard and the EU’s High Risk Security Network to test advanced UAS and counter-UAS capabilities through combined tactical exercises.

In September, US defense company Shield AI showcased its Hivemind autonomous flight software to India’s ministry of defense ahead of potential approval to supply V-BAT drone systems to the Indian Army and Air Force.
