Poland Expands Apache Fleet With New US Deliveries

Poland has received two additional AH-64D Apache attack helicopters from the US, the latest in its plan to build a modern attack aviation capability.

Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed the arrival of the aircraft at the 1st Army Aviation Brigade in Inowrocław, with the final two of the leased fleet expected to arrive by the end of the year.

The eight leased Apaches are part of an interim agreement with the US that allows Polish pilots and maintenance crews to train ahead of the arrival of the new AH-64E Guardian variant, purchased under a broader modernization effort.

The helicopters are already being integrated into training programs designed to prepare Poland’s Army Aviation units for full-scale operations once the newly built Apaches begin arriving in the coming years.

Poland Expands US Defense Procurement Portfolio

Poland’s Apache program is part of a wider defense modernization effort that has deepened Warsaw’s military ties with the US.

In August 2024, Krakow finalized a $10-billion deal for 96 AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters, the largest Apache order ever placed by a European nation. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026, with Boeing overseeing production and Polish industry partners supporting logistics and maintenance.

The Polish Armed Forces also received several M1A2 Abrams SEPv3 main battle tanks from the US in 2025, and continues integrating HIMARS rocket artillery systems under contracts worth billions.

Poland also signed a $2-billion agreement with the US in April 2025 for Patriot systems, with the aim of boosting its air defense network against regional threats.
