Agile Defense Joins $44M US Navy IT Upgrade
Agile Defense has secured a major subcontract under a $44-million US Navy program to help modernize and secure the Military Sealift Command’s (MSC) global IT systems.
Awarded to Savvee Consulting, the five-and-a-half-year contract will deliver advanced IT engineering support to enhance cybersecurity readiness.
It also seeks to streamline enterprise operations and improve system resilience across MSC’s worldwide maritime logistics network.
As a key subcontractor, Agile Defense will provide cybersecurity, data-driven analytics, and sustainment services aimed at strengthening the command’s ability to operate its fleet of more than 130 civilian-crewed ships that transport supplies, fuel, and equipment to US and allied forces.
Jay Burkhardt, Agile Defense’s Vice President for navy and marine corps operations, said the partnership highlights the firm’s ongoing efforts to integrate secure and efficient digital systems into naval operations.
Beyond network modernization, the program supports a wider push by the navy to reinforce mission assurance through robust digital infrastructure. It aligns with ongoing Department of Defense efforts to tighten cyber hygiene across operational technology and maritime assets.
Understanding the Military Sealift Command
The MSC serves as the US Navy’s primary provider of maritime logistics and sealift operations, ensuring that deployed forces receive critical fuel, ammunition, and supplies anywhere in the world.
Headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, MSC operates ships ranging from fast combat support vessels to ocean surveillance and hospital ships, making it a crucial link in the Pentagon’s global supply chain.
In 2025, MSC expanded its capabilities with the introduction of the John Lewis-class fleet oilers, which are designed to provide more efficient refueling support to carrier strike groups.
It also began fielding enhanced cybersecurity measures aboard its auxiliary ships to comply with Navy Cybersecurity Readiness standards.
Earlier this year, the command completed upgrades to its Global Maritime Operations Center, allowing for real-time tracking and coordination of logistics vessels worldwide.
