The German Armed Forces has awarded a framework contract to Flensburg Technology Systems to supply up to 200 light airborne combat and support vehicles for its special forces units.
Under the initial order, the service will reportedly procure 40 combat and 14 support vehicles for approximately 30 million euros ($35 million), along with special tool kits and documentation.
The procurement budget for the order has been released, with deliveries expected by the end of 2028.
Additional vehicles could be ordered under the seven-year framework agreement.
“We are highly satisfied about this long-term project with the Bundeswehr,” CEO of Flensburg Technology Systems Jörg Kamper said.
“We look forward to implementing this program with the KSK (German Special Forces Command) and are confident that our vehicle represents the optimal solution not only for the Bundeswehr, but also for other international special operations forces.
Through timely deliveries of the vehicle systems, we are contributing directly to the future operational readiness of the German Armed Forces and the KSK.”
Light Airborne Vehicles
Collectively known as Tahr, the two vehicles introduce a new 3.2-ton (6,400-pound/2,903-kilogram) class optimized for the demanding requirements of special operations.
Based on the field-proven Z family of all-terrain vehicles from Israel Aerospace Industries/ELTA, the 4×4 platform combines extreme off-road agility, rapid acceleration, and exceptional stability.
The three‑seat Tahr combat version reportedly features a main mount for a 12.7 mm HMG, MG6 minigun, or grenade launcher.
Its airborne support variant is designed for material transport, featuring two seats and no main weapon mount.
Germany-based Flensburg Technology Systems is a subsidiary of FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft and Israel Aerospace Industries/ELTA.
