Czechoslovak Group Launches AviaNera to Enter Military Drone Market

Czech defense group Czechoslovak Group (CSG) has launched a new company, AviaNera Technologies, to enter the growing market for military drones.

The firm will focus on developing and producing unmanned aerial systems and their propulsion engines entirely within the Czech Republic. The products include jet and turbofan types, according to the company.

It will collaborate with Excalibur International, CSG’s export and project arm, to speed up production, and reach foreign markets.

The launch represents one of CSG’s most significant moves into advanced defense technology, continuing its expansion beyond ammunition, vehicles, and artillery.

CEO Michal Strnad said the company aims to replicate its success in small-caliber ammunition by establishing a strong position in unmanned systems.

“Our goal is to become a significant player in the field of military UAS and advanced weapon systems,” he said.

Europe’s Expanding Drone Industry

The first AviaNera systems are expected to enter production once testing and development facilities are completed.

CSG’s entry into the drone sector comes as European defense companies race to expand unmanned systems capabilities.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has highlighted the critical role of drones in surveillance and strike missions, prompting many governments and manufacturers to invest heavily in local production.

For example, Ukraine has developed dozens of domestically-made drones for frontline operations.

Poland has begun producing the naval drones, while France recently announced funding for the Aarok long-endurance drone built by Turgis & Gaillard.
