US Army Unveils Digital Simulation and Analysis Hub

The US Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) has opened the Digital Simulation and Analysis Center at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.

Supporting hypersonic, directed energy, tactical space, and high-altitude labs, the center is dedicated to advancing key modernization technologies and streamlining the development and testing of components and systems for missile defense and space programs.

By reducing costs through modeling and simulation, it aims to facilitate the integration of new technologies into operational units, enhancing warfighters’ combat capabilities.

The facility “is a space to do things differently; increase learning, move at a faster pace, and make our army more lethal on the battlefield,” said Lt. Gen. Sean A. Gainey, SMDC commanding general.

As Gainey emphasized, adapting to complex challenges is crucial, and “continuous transformation in the army depends on smart and efficient research, development, testing, and evaluation.”

Advancing Simulation and Analysis

The Digital Simulation and Analysis Center is an 8,000-square-foot (743-square-meter) facility supporting work for the SMDC and its partners.

It provides computing tools that enable early data integration and digital testing, allowing researchers to run thousands of simulations to refine technologies before prototyping.

Moreover, the facility will enhance cooperation between the US government, military, and industry to accelerate technology development and improve the transition from concept to deployment.

The collaboration “will support technology development, integration efforts and programs of record in air, space and missile defense to achieve capability overmatch,” said Nicole Olbricht, director of the tech center’s systems engineering directorate.
