Romania Hosts Rheinmetall Production Network for Military Systems
Rheinmetall has launched a new production network in Romania to strengthen the country’s defense sector, support armed forces modernization, and build new partnerships with local defense firms.
The strategy aims to support Bucharest’s domestic procurement and assembly while integrating Romanian expertise into the production chain.
The Düsseldorf-based defense contractor said that its network will primarily address the NATO member’s need for ready-to-use solutions for a wide range of defense capabilities.
A key part of Rheinmetall’s localization plan in Romania is working with major organizations such as Uzina Automecanica Moreni, Interactive Software SRL, and MarcTel-SIT.
Rheinmetall’s subsidiary Automecanica, headquartered in Transylvania, will also play a critical role in the network, particularly in the manufacturing of the Lynx infantry fighting vehicles for the Romanian Armed Forces.
Meanwhile, Rheinmetall Munitions Romania will manufacture medium-caliber ammunition for infantry and air defense systems, with propellants supplied by the state-run Victoria Explosive Powder Factory using Rheinmetall-provided technology.
The German defense contractor said that its expansion in Romania will also promote the transfer of expertise to the local workforce through advanced simulators and training programs, preparing personnel to operate and maintain next-generation systems like the Lynx platform.
“Rheinmetall’s investment in local production will make a significant contribution to the Romanian economy by creating hundreds of jobs in various sectors, including manufacturing, engineering and technical services,” Rheinmetall said.
“Cooperation with Romanian companies will also boost local supply chains, create additional business opportunities and promote industrial growth…laying the foundation for a sustainable and independent defence industry.”
