Leidos to Lead Project to Enhance NATO Cybersecurity With IT Solutions

Leidos has secured an $87 million contract with NATO’s Communications and Information Agency to develop a centralized IT solution utilizing private cloud technology to enhance the alliance’s cybersecurity and network resilience.

Under the contract, Leidos will lead a multinational team with Thales in France, CGI in Germany, Leonardo in Italy, and UK-based LA International and NEXOR.

The project aims to improve network scalability and support NATO’s broader digital transformation efforts.

The system will integrate key functions, including IT service management and cybersecurity, across NATO’s operational network to enhance interoperability and command efficiency.

“This project reflects our long-standing commitment to NATO, leveraging innovative solutions aimed at delivering secure, mission-ready capabilities designed to adapt with operational needs,” said Steve Hull, Leidos digital modernization sector president.

“It also creates new opportunities for more integrated collaboration across trans-Atlantic defense networks, helping NATO teams stay securely connected and able to share critical information with greater speed, agility and assurance,” he added.

Enhancing Cyber Defense

As part of ongoing efforts to bolster cyber defenses, NATO is establishing a new cyber center to enhance coordination and resilience against threats.

In July last year, the alliance announced plans to open the NATO Integrated Cyber Defence Centre at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium.

The center aims to strengthen network reliability, situational awareness, and operational coordination.

This comes after a major 2023 cyberattack linked to the hacktivist group SiegedSec, which compromised sensitive planning and research files and disrupted NATO’s unclassified websites.

The breach raised concerns over the alliance’s ability to protect communications used to share intelligence on emerging threats.
