The Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) proudly announce Exercise NORTHERN FOREST 23 (NF23), a major military exercise led by the FDF and involving allied forces and JEF Participant Nations (PNs). Taking place during May and June 2023, NF23 is designed to enhance the capabilities of the Finnish troops and validate their readiness for future operations. As part of NF23, A Company Group from 5 RIFLES will be exercising as an Armoured Infantry Company within a Finnish battlegroup, operating alongside the Finnish Jaeger Corps and Border Guard. The exercise will be primarily held in the picturesque region of Rovaniemi, Finland, providing a challenging and realistic environment for the participating forces. NF23 is of great significance to the FDF as it serves as the main exercise for the year, aiming to thoroughly assess and validate the Finnish troops' skills and preparedness. By conducting joint training exercises with allied forces and JEF PNs, the FDF aims to strengthen cooperation, interoperability, and shared understanding among the participating nations. During the exercise, the Finnish Defence Forces will test a range of tactics, techniques, and procedures in various scenarios, including defensive and offensive operations, urban warfare, and border security. The focus will be on improving command and control structures, enhancing decision-making processes, and refining the interoperability of different units involved.
