Alpine Eagle to Increase Counter-UAS Production as Drone Threats Rise

European counter-drone company Alpine Eagle has announced plans to increase production of its Sentinel system as demand rises for protection against drone threats.

As part of the initiative, the firm plans to open a 2,000-square-meter (21,500-square-foot) production facility near Munich focused on the manufacture of interceptors.

To scale production, Alpine Eagle is integrating its systems with the DeltaQuad Evo platform, developed by Dutch manufacturer DeltaQuad.

The arrangement allows the company to rely on existing manufacturing capacity while keeping sourcing within European supply chains.

The approach combines an established unmanned aerial vehicle (UAS) platform with Alpine Eagle’s sensing and software components, enabling fast assembly and deployment.

Sentinel System

Sentinel is an airborne counter-UAS built on a networked architecture linking sensor platforms and interceptor drones through a unified operating system.

The system manages detection, tracking, and engagement in real time.

It uses a combination of active and passive sensors, with onboard data fusion to improve target identification and tracking.

Edge processing allows data to be analyzed locally, reducing dependence on external networks and enabling faster response.

Growing Demand

The company pointed to recent conflicts as evidence of growing demand for scalable counter-drone capabilities.

Large-scale drone attacks in Ukraine and the Gulf have shown that relatively low-cost systems can strain traditional air defense, often requiring the use of significantly more expensive interceptors.

Estimates from recent Middle East engagements indicate that more than $1.5 billion was spent on intercepting drone attacks that may have cost around $250 million to launch.

This cost imbalance is driving increased interest in more cost-effective systems designed to counter large volumes of low-cost aerial threats, including across Europe.

Against this backdrop, Alpine Eagle has expanded its footprint, securing new customers and extending operations to the UK and the Netherlands following its initial deployment with the German armed forces in 2024.

The company has also taken part in earlier operational and testing activities, including counter-drone trials in Ukraine conducted with US and UK forces, providing exposure to high-intensity operating conditions.
