US Firm Invests in Israeli Loitering Munition Developer Aerodrome
US defense technology company EagleNXT has announced a strategic investment in Israeli firm Aerodrome, aiming to expand its presence in autonomous defense systems and loitering munition technologies.
Under the agreement, EagleNXT has secured an option to establish a joint venture in the United States with Aerodrome, pending regulatory approval and final agreement between the two companies.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Deepening Collaboration
Aerodrome’s technology focuses on target discrimination and autonomous decision-support capabilities intended to help unmanned systems identify and track specific targets while operating in contested environments.
EagleNXT, which develops drone platforms, sensor technologies, and software systems for government and commercial customers, said the investment aligns with its broader strategy to expand its portfolio of autonomous technologies.
Its systems are used across defense, public safety, and industrial sectors.
The companies said the partnership could also deepen collaboration between US and Israeli defense technology firms as militaries increasingly integrate autonomous systems and drones into operational planning.
EagleNXT has not disclosed whether Aerodrome’s loitering munition technologies will be integrated into existing platforms or future programs.
However, the agreement highlights a broader trend in the defense sector toward combining sensing, autonomy, and strike capabilities within integrated unmanned systems.
Growing Role of Loitering Munitions
Interest in loitering munitions has surged in recent years as militaries seek relatively low-cost precision strike systems capable of engaging mobile or time-sensitive targets.
The weapons have seen widespread use in recent conflicts, including the war in Ukraine and fighting in the Middle East, where they have been deployed against armored vehicles, artillery positions, and other high-value assets.
Israeli companies have been among the early pioneers of the technology.Platforms such as the Harop developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, helped popularize the concept in modern warfare and have been exported to multiple countries.
