Dassault Aviation Leads $200M Funding Round in Harmattan AI

Dassault Aviation has led a $200 million Series B funding round in Harmattan AI, a defense-focused artificial intelligence company, as part of a strategic partnership aimed at integrating AI-driven autonomy into future combat aviation systems.

The partnership centers on the development and integration of controlled and monitored AI capabilities for military aircraft, including both manned and unmanned platforms.

The collaboration will focus on applying Harmattan AI’s technologies to Dassault Aviation’s future air combat programs, including the Rafale F5 standard and unmanned combat air system concepts, particularly in roles involving the control and coordination of drones.

Harmattan AI develops AI-enabled systems for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, drone interception, and electronic warfare.

The company has previously secured multiple programs of record from the French and UK Ministries of Defence.

This new funding will be used to expand deployments into additional operational environments, broaden Harmattan AI’s product portfolio into new mission areas, and increase industrial manufacturing capacity.

Increasing AI Push in Defense, Autonomy

Dassault Aviation’s involvement reflects a broader trend among major defense primes to deepen in-house and partnered capabilities in artificial intelligence and autonomy, particularly as European governments emphasize technological sovereignty and tighter control over sensitive defense software.

For Dassault, the partnership complements ongoing work on next-generation combat aircraft and collaborative combat concepts that rely on manned-unmanned teaming.

Under the agreement, Dassault Aviation will contribute expertise in systems architecture for complex military platforms, integration of mission systems in contested environments, and international market access through its existing defense export network.
