The US has approved a $163.4-million contract for Textron Systems to deliver 65 Commando Select armored vehicles to Ukraine, boosting Kyiv’s battlefield mobility and protection.
Awarded through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) via the foreign military sales process, the three‑year firm fixed‑price contract covers fabrication, delivery, and one year of spare parts.
Textron Systems’ Commando Select — a variant of its Mobile Strike Force Vehicle — is designed to operate in demanding environments, offering enhanced crew protection and mobility compared with many armored personnel carriers.
David Phillips, senior vice president of Air, Land and Sea Systems at Textron, noted that the Commando Select has supported secure personnel movement, military police and constabulary missions, and command‑and‑control operations in combat zones.
US Assistance for Ukraine
American military aid to Ukraine and other partners has remained a central element of US foreign and defense policy in recent years.
In late 2024, Washington unveiled nearly $6 billion in military and budgetary aid for Ukraine, including drawdowns of weapons such as artillery rounds, HIMARS ammunition, anti‑tank systems, air defense interceptors, and drones under various assistance authorities.
In December 2025, the US greenlit an additional $800-million security assistance package for Kyiv, with half of that to be delivered in 2026 and 2027 through the USAI.
In January 2025, the government announced $500 million in new military aid, including additional missiles for Ukrainian air defense and other equipment to support Ukrainian F‑16 operations.
