Latvia to Donate Confiscated Vehicles to Ukraine

Latvia plans to hand over 21 vehicles confiscated from drunk drivers and other criminal cases to Ukraine, including a 22-year-old Lincoln Navigator luxury SUV, according to local media.

The Latvian Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared a draft government decision to approve the transfer of vehicles, all of which are to support defense tasks and essential services in war-affected areas.

The vehicles, manufactured between 2000 and 2019, have a combined estimated market value of about 74,600 euros ($87,183), based on preliminary assessments by the State Provision Agency.

Specified recipients will include military units under the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard, the Kharkiv Clinical Multidisciplinary Railway Hospital, and the military administration of the Novovorontsovka settlement, Delfi reported.

The transfer falls under a Latvian program launched in March 2023 that allows vehicles seized for serious traffic violations to be redirected to Ukraine.

The policy, introduced through legislative amendments, aims to convert the properties into practical assistance, with Latvian officials citing urgent war-related needs.

Since then, the Baltic state has regularly sent confiscated vehicles to Kyiv’s military.

In 2024 alone, Ukraine received more than 600 such cars from the country, which officials say have been used for frontline logistics, medical support, and humanitarian operations.
