Hungarian Air Force Completes C-390 Millennium Fleet With Second Embraer Delivery

Embraer has delivered the second C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft to the Hungarian Air Force at the Kecskemét Air Base, completing the nation’s contracted fleet.

Since its introduction last year, Hungary’s first C-390 has supported a wide range of missions, from troop and cargo transport to humanitarian operations, achieving high reliability.

With the second aircraft now in service, Hungary becomes the first operator worldwide to receive all its ordered C-390s.

Commenting on Embraer’s growing partnership with Hungary, Defense & Security CEO Bosco da Costa Jr. said the delivery represents a key achievement for the company.

“This is a significant milestone for Embraer as we deliver the second C-390 Millennium to the Hungarian Air Force,” he stated.

“This aircraft will further enhance Hungary’s capabilities by providing superior operational performance, greater flexibility, and reduced life-cycle costs.”

‘Incredibly Important’

The Hungarian C-390 fleet is designed for versatile roles, including paratrooper operations, search and rescue, air-to-air refueling, evacuation, and humanitarian relief.

Moreover, the planes are the first in the world to feature a modular medical intensive care unit, allowing rapid conversion for critical patient transport.

“This is a truly uplifting and joyful moment, an incredibly important event in the development of the Hungarian Air Force,” Hungarian Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said.

“This type of transport capability was lacking in the Hungarian Air Force’s arsenal, but now it is available. Thank you very much to everyone who contributed to this process.”

The Millennium Aircraft

The C-390 Millennium has a payload capacity of 26,000 kilograms (57,320 pounds) to carry up to seven master pallets, six pallets with roughly 30 personnel, 60 paratroopers, about 70 stretchers for medical evacuation, or 80 armed soldiers, depending on mission needs.

The platform carries a maximum fuel load of 35,000 kilograms (77,162 pounds), allowing for extended deployments.

Powered by twin IAE V2500-E5 turbofan engines, the 35-meter (115-foot) plane can reach speeds exceeding 900 kilometers (559 miles) per hour, operate at altitudes up to 11,000 meters (36,089 feet), and cover a range of 6,000 kilometers (3,728 miles).
