UK Could Pledge Over $133M for Multinational Force in Ukraine: Report
UK Defense Secretary John Healey said that the country’s contribution to a potential multinational peacekeeping force in Ukraine would exceed 100 million pounds ($133 million), according to The Guardian.
Healey noted that funds have already been allocated to ensure the UK- and France-led “Multinational Force Ukraine” could deploy quickly if a ceasefire is reached.
The proposed force would include about 30 countries and be initially commanded by a French general, with leadership rotating to the UK after one year.
Its main tasks would include air policing to secure Kyiv’s airspace and maritime security operations in coordination with an existing Black Sea mine-clearing mission involving Turkey, Romania, and Bulgaria.
Both London and Paris have previously expressed readiness to deploy their forces to Ukraine.
Peace Deal Negotiations Stalling
The announcement of potential post-ceasefire stabilization troop deployments in Ukraine comes as President Volodymyr Zelensky met with US President Donald Trump at the White House amid Washington’s renewed push for a ceasefire.
According to reports, Trump urged Kyiv to consider territorial concessions in the eastern Donbas region as part of a potential peace deal.
Sources described the talks as difficult and said diplomatic negotiations to end the war appeared to be stalling.
Meanwhile, plans for a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest are on hold, with Trump saying he does not want the talks to be a “waste of time.”
