Quantum Systems Unveils Made-in-Ukraine Drone ‘Mothership’
German drone manufacturer Quantum Systems is developing a drone “mothership” in Ukraine known as Sparta.
Development is in its final stages, with serial production expected to begin by year’s end, Hartpunkt reported, citing a company spokesperson.
The unmanned aerial system can carry an undisclosed number of drones and launch them at designated locations, extending their range and effectiveness.
Moreover, the system can be pre-deployed in operational areas to shorten response times.
According to the company, the prototype design may be modified during production, including changes to the landing system.
Versatile Platform
Sparta can carry a range of modular payloads, with attachment points on each wing, making it a versatile platform.
Featuring a long, narrow fuselage and extended wings, the system has a V-shaped tail and a rear-mounted electric pusher propeller.
Unlike Quantum Systems’ vertical takeoff and landing platforms, Sparta is catapult-launched to enhance lift capability.
The platform performs a controlled belly landing, slowing its speed as it nears the ground.
The eight-kilogram (17.6-pound) platform has a maximum takeoff weight of 23 kilograms (51 pounds), a flight radius of 200 kilometers (124 miles), and endurance of six to eight hours.
