Philippines, Ukraine Obtain Military Trucks From S. Korea
The Philippines is investing in South Korean military trucks for its army following the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ adoption of the vehicles.
Manila’s procurement encompasses 8 to 10-ton (7,257 to 9,072-kilogram) trucks that will be supplied by Jeonbuk-based mobility developer Daewoo, according to a Filipino source.
Distribution of the fleet will be facilitated by a local contractor, with shipments expected in the coming months.
It was specified that the trucks would incorporate Daewoo’s 6×6 Novus models already operational in the Philippine Army.
The update did not reveal the exact quantity of the systems and other items included in the package.
The Southeast Asian country’s acquisition comes four months after Ukraine fielded Novus platforms for its military.
At the time, local Ukrainian media reported that Daewoo delivered the trucks to the country, with over 50 percent of the assembly localized.
The Daewoo Novus
Daewoo’s Novus 6×6 measures 8 meters (26 feet) long and has a payload capacity of approximately 18,500 kilograms (40,786 pounds), depending on its configuration.
It is powered by an up to 450 horsepower engine, a 9 or 12-speed automatic transmission, and is compliant with Euro-5 emissions.
The vehicle has a top speed of more than 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and an estimated range of 1,200 kilometers (746 miles).
