Booz Allen Backs PDW to Scale US Drone Output
Booz Allen Hamilton has announced an investment in PDW, a US-based developer and manufacturer of drones for defense and public safety missions.
The company frames the move as part of its broader push into autonomy, artificial intelligence, and defense technology integration.
PDW produces small unmanned aircraft systems designed for surveillance and other military and security missions.
It operates a manufacturing facility in Huntsville, Alabama, and has previously supplied its C100 unmanned aerial system to the US Air Force.
Booz Allen Industry Partnerships
Booz Allen has been expanding its involvement in autonomy-focused defense technologies through partnerships and venture investments.
These include collaborations with firms such as Shield AI, which develops AI-powered autonomous systems, as well as engagement with cloud and infrastructure providers like Amazon Web Services.
The company has also backed or worked with several smaller autonomy and defense startups, including Firestorm, Scout AI, and Ulysses.
US Scales Domestic Drone Production
The investment in PDW comes amid increased US government attention on expanding domestic production of unmanned systems.
Defense planners have raised concerns over supply chain resilience, rapid battlefield attrition of small drones, and reliance on foreign-made components in parts of the sector.
Recent Pentagon initiatives aimed at accelerating procurement of low-cost autonomous systems have encouraged partnerships between established defense contractors and smaller drone manufacturers.
