UK Eyes Joint Drone Development With Kuwait

The UK is expanding defense ties with Kuwait with a new focus on joint drone development and emerging military technologies.

Speaking during an official visit, UK Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said the next phase of cooperation will center on unmanned systems and modern defense capabilities as both countries respond to shifting battlefield demands, according to the Kuwait Times

Discussions also touched on operational systems already in use, including the Rapid Sentry air defense capability, which Lammy said has helped intercept missile threats and reduce losses.

Lammy described Kuwait as a long-standing security partner, with joint efforts extending across training, advisory support, and integrated operations between British and Kuwaiti forces.

The effort builds on decades of military collaboration, including a standing British training and advisory mission in Kuwait that dates back to 1992.

UK Expands Drone Partnerships Abroad

London’s outreach to Kuwait fits into a broader pattern of drone collaboration with partner nations in recent years, often combining technology sharing, joint development, and operational integration.

For example, the UK is participating in a joint effort to develop a low-cost loitering munition for deep precision strikes. Announced in February under the European Long-Range Strike Approach, the project includes Germany, France, Italy, Poland, and Sweden.

In October 2025, the UK and Ukraine announced that they were teaming up to produce thousands of Octopus-100 interceptor drones. The system is designed to detect and destroy enemy threats mid-air using onboard sensors and advanced targeting systems.

Meanwhile, collaboration with Australia has also touched on autonomous systems under defense frameworks such as AUKUS, where both countries are exploring advanced technologies including AI-enabled platforms and next-generation capabilities that extend to drones.
