AeroVironment (AV) is pushing deeper into anti-drone defense with a new ‘$5-per-shot’ laser weapon built to burn down airborne threats in contested environments.
The AI-powered system, called LOCUST X3, features a scalable laser ranging from 20 kilowatts to more than 35 kilowatts, allowing operators to adjust output based on mission needs.
It integrates a beam director with the AV_Halo PINPOINT software, which supports detection, tracking, and targeting with minimal human input.
