Nigeria Secures $200M for Defense Manufacturing Push
Nigus International Investment Limited and UAE-based Elmirate Investment have signed a memorandum of understanding for up to $200 million to build defense manufacturing capabilities in Nigeria.
The agreement will be executed through a special purpose entity, to be called Nigus Tactical Systems Limited, which will oversee investment, technology integration, and operations, according to local media.
The initiative aims to expand domestic defense production, strengthen digital security systems, and reduce reliance on imported equipment.
Planned capabilities include tactical drones, intelligence and surveillance systems, ammunition production, and armored vehicles.
The collaboration will also focus on cyber solutions and training facilities, as well as satellite technologies such as earth observation and secure communications networks for military and civilian applications.
The project will operate under the regulatory framework of Abuja’s state-run Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria in line with the government’s DICON Act 2023, which promotes local manufacturing and technology transfer.
Advancing Sovereignty, Industrial Growth
Executive Chairman Malik Ado-Ibrahim said the partnership reflects a broader shift toward technological self-reliance.
“Africa is entering a pivotal phase in its development, where technological capability will increasingly define economic strength and national security,” BusinessDay quoted him as saying.
“Our objective is to build a sustainable industrial base in Nigeria that supports innovation, advanced manufacturing, and meaningful technology transfer while serving national priorities.”
Managing Director Pankajj Ghode expressed a similar view, highlighting that the investment signals “strong confidence in Nigeria’s economic potential.”
“By connecting our global network of defense, cybersecurity, aerospace and advanced technology partners with local expertise, we aim to support the development of a resilient ecosystem,” Nairametrics quoted Ghode as saying.
